Born in Covina, a Los Angeles suburb, Ava Lemert's childhood home was filled with music. By age 7, Ava was recording "radio programs" on her own cassette tape recorder and by age 11 was writing music notation and submitting her compositions to youth talent shows.
A unique lady of many talents, Ms. Lemert is not only a prolific songwriter, she is a very soulful vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist. However, Ava, when asked about her love for performing on her two saxophones states "When I bring out my tenor sax, I hear 'wow, do you play that thing?' all the time, because I'm just over 5 feet tall and I look like Lisa Simpson!" What also comes across about Ava is that she has a personality that draws people in and makes the listener feel as if she is singing and or playing just for them, personally. She is a warm and friendly as well.
Ava has a busy graphic design business as well, furnishing her own visual branding in addition to being a volunteer librarian, occasionally performing for elementary kids as well as at several local charity events and assisted living communities in Sacramento California, where she is based.

I heard the title song "Motherless Child," the other day and I was really shaken by it's message and when sung by Mahalia Jackson, one of my Mom's favorite singers, I just broke down and cried...
So I was driven by that heart-wrenching moment to attempt this song, because, I *am* a Motherless Child. The music really came out well, I made it with my KeyRig and the great instruments I have sampled, these are my favorite orchestral patches used in my arrangement. Yes, I am not just a singer. I make the music as often as I can because I can afford my own time :-)
So it made sense to me to group with it, my song written for my Mom, Annette and also having just lost one of my greatest influences, Etta James also to cancer just this week, I recorded a new version of "At Last" I haven't figured out artwork yet. I'll get back to you on it. Thanks for checking it out :-) Ava
UPDATE (Feb. 10, 2012) today I have created the artwork for this EP and it is my Mom holding me as a 5 month old baby. Yes, I was Ginormous! So it is a smile with a tear that I give to you this collection. I also changed the pricing structure, I hope that helps encourage you to get it and tell people about me, play my music for them and tell them that we are friends :-)
