With her quirky tongue-in-cheek lyrics universal pop melodies and
trademark hair British Barbarella Lolene is a hot topic
coining the term awkward pop Lolene describes her music as Sound bites to her life.
Raised by a single mother and
independent by defaul Lolene is a native
of Bristol, England where she grew up mastering tap and jazz dance
ballet before discovering as a teenager that music was her true calling
Lolene began writing songs and singing vocals for the trip-hop artist
Martina Topley-Bird and Bristol drum and bass pioneer Roni Size. After
school she moved to London and fronted a short-lived girl
group. With skills to write lyric and melody Lolene wrote the
group's material and signed a development deal at BMG Records. This faded out quickly and the girls parted ways leaving Lolene solo again.
Armed with nothing but a suitcase and demo, Lolene moved to
Hollywood looking for her big break and was discovered by
platinum producer Jonathan JR Rotem who signed her to his publishing
label Beluga Heights / Sony ATV. She began working as a songwriter
writing regularly with l Andreas Carlsson, Christopher
Rojas, Makeba Riddick Evan Bogart Danja Harvey Mason Jr. and
Christina Milian for which Lolene penned single" Diamonds featuring
In 2010 Lolene signed as an artist to Capitol/EMI records US. Sexy People was the first track and video from her highly
anticipated debut album The Electrick Hotel. The song reached #5 on the billboard dance chart and was a club smash all over the US. Her follow up release Rich (fake it til you make it) was an underground favorite but only released through itunes US and failed to receive label promotion although a video was made.
Around this time she released a mix tape named Cracked NOT Broken in frustration to lack of support from her record label EMI who were undergoing major change as a company.
In 2011 Lolene parted ways with EMI and has spent time in Stockholm and London penning new music for her self and others.
She's Got A Pulse is the long awaited self released EP from Lolene who describes it as budget free collection of songs celebrating the fact she is musically alive.
Lolene now lives in London and is reinventing her sound and visual...
